From the Foster:
Grillo (GREE-yo,

spanish

for “Cricket”) is a bright, playful, responsive and handsome little fellow who was rescued from the streets of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he was starving to death.  He had

ehrlicia

,

mange

, anemia and needed surgery to remove a shard of chicken bone embedded in his gums.  Grillo was rescued by Puro Gato in Puerto Vallarta, and has come all the way to Secondhand Hounds to find his forever family!

He loves to play with dogs, cats

and

toys, but his favorite thing of all is being with his people.  He’s very bright (in fact he’s

billingual

!), learned stairs and “sit” super quickly, and is doing well with his house training – he has done some non-productive marking

indoors,

but has been doing his regular business outside despite the cold.  He does not like a crate but hasn’t needed one – we give him the run of the house here.  He’s a good watchdog with a deep

bark,

but isn’t

yappy

.

He can be possessive of his person where other pets are concerned, but we’ve been correcting him and he responds.  He likes to sleep (very soundly) in our bed and sit beside me (also soundly) when I work.  This boy is a little rough around the edges yet in terms of manners, but he is a fast learner and oh so cute!  He’s healthy, brave, loyal, loving and down for anything – gets along with everyone, travels well, is cheerful, and a delightful little sidekick.  His ideal home probably has another pet, will embrace his joyfulness and will be patient with his small quirks as he learns about a brand new world here in Minnesota.  He is very sweet and just wants to be loved and interacted with, but I wouldn’t describe him as needy.  Could be a good candidate for agility or obedience since he is a clever little guy.

Grillo is looking for his human sidekick and is a super duper

good

boy.  If you’d like to meet or know more about him, fill out an application…and we’ll love him up for you in the meantime.
