My Story

Meet Loki! He is an absolute sweetheart.  He loves to be part of the family and is a really good boy who is eager to please and learn some tricks.  He has had some time working with our wonderful volunteer trainer and has learned to be a gentleman on a leash.  Loki does well with other dogs but sometimes needs a slow introduction.  Loki is about 2 years old and 60 lbs, neutered and up to date on vaccines.  He loves to play with his toys or just hang out with you.  Good boy, Loki!

More About This Rescue

Smyth County Animal Control and Shelter provides for the humane treatment of stray, neglected and abused animals. We wish to provide our professional assistance for the health and protection of the residents of Smyth County. Our responsibilities include the enforcement of local and state animal control laws, the humane capture and treatment of unwanted animals, investigation of animal abuse, neglect, cruelty, and the provision of emergency transportation and care for injured animals within our jurisdiction.

Smyth County Animal Control provides humane euthanasia for animals in order to prevent suffering as well as over population. We also provide euthanasia for residential pets in Smyth County when they become terminally ill or injured and can no longer enjoy their quality of life. Smyth County Animal Control also investigates damage claims involving livestock, crops, domesticated animals, hunters and wildlife, among many other services.

The Smyth County Animal Shelter provides a comfortable, warm and safe environment for animals received unwanted, abused or abandoned. We provide adoption services for animals with suitable dispositions in an effort to place them within a nurturing environment. We believe that shelter animals can become the loving, caring companions that are needed and wanted by our society today.
